What is Verra VCS?

Standard

VCS programme overview

The Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) is the world's most widely used voluntary GHG programme. Over 1,900 projects in 80+ countries have issued more than 900 million VCUs — each representing one tonne of CO₂-equivalent reduced or removed.

CCB Gold — target

CCB Gold standard

The Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB) Gold standard certifies that EWOOD's reforestation delivers exceptional co-benefits — measurable biodiversity gains, direct community livelihoods and climate resilience — beyond pure carbon accounting.

Methodology

VM0047 — ARR methodology

VM0047 is Verra's Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation methodology — the most conservative, scientifically robust framework for tropical ARR projects. It governs how carbon sequestration is measured, verified and issued as VCUs, commanding a market premium.

Certification process

Project design document (PDD)

Full baseline study, monitoring plan and additionality analysis compiled and submitted to Verra. EWOOD PDD submitted 2025.

DOE validation

Independent Designated Operational Entity audits the PDD against VM0047 criteria. Validation in progress — expected completion Q3 2026.

VCU issuance

Following registry registration, Verified Carbon Units are issued against verified biomass measurements. First issuance projected 2027.

Registry listing

VCUs listed on the Verra public registry with serial numbers, project details and retirement records fully transparent and searchable.

Why Verra matters

Market share

Market standard

Verra VCS accounts for approximately 80% of the global voluntary carbon market by volume. Buyers and compliance bodies recognise it as the benchmark for credit integrity.

Independence

Third-party verified

No credit is issued without independent audit by a Verra-accredited DOE. Every tCO₂e you purchase has passed external scientific scrutiny — not self-reported claims.

Transparency

Transparent public registry

Every project, VCU serial number and retirement record is publicly searchable on the Verra registry — providing full chain-of-custody traceability to any buyer or auditor.
